  • Focal Award 2019 for Best Restoration Project

Focal Award 2019 for Best Restoration Project

L'immagine Ritrovata had the honour of accepting, on behalf of Cineteca di Bologna, this year's prestigious FOCAL Award for the Best Archive Restoration/Preservation Title for the restoration of Pixote: A Lei do Mais Fraco (H.Babenco, Brazil, 1981). The restoration work was commisioned by the WCF and George Lucas Family Foundation.

In the last two decades Pixote has only been available on scratched and worn-out 35mm prints. Pixote was restored using the original camera negatives and first generational internegatives preserved at the Cinemateca Brasileira. In order to minimise the overall presence of mold, the camera negative was wet-gate scanned at 4K resolution, and digitally restored, requiring significant effort.

The annual FOCAL International Awards ceremony was held  on June 20th, 2019.
